In such a time of cooking gas crisis where do we turn our eyes for cooking. In cities it will be difficult if there is no cooking gas. A gas cylinder is precious more than a gold in such a time. In rural areas such crisis will not impact much as the other alternative for cooking are woods and cowdungs. Sometimes city life do not have a value in such a crisis. The kitchen halted, the restautant and hotels and other eatery shops slow down or closed down. Anxious and silent regarding the millions for whom daily cooking gas is a primary necessity. Yes we can call this only a disruption, however, it is a wake-up call.
We must accept that traditional methods of cooking which has been abandoned long ago are to be revived again.
It is time to start again and improve biomass chulhas which consume less wood and produce less smoke. These chulhas are far more efficient than the earlier traditional cooking.
Next alternative,we can also try to get rid of totally dependent of gas by using solar cookers which are powerful solution especially in areas where there are abundant sunlight. Solar cookers also are clean, free and sustainable.
In urban areas, you can use Induction cooktops and electric pressure cookers as they are fast, efficient, and increasingly affordable. Since they are renewable energy sources, the solution becomes even stronger.
Biogas systems is another alternative for cooking. These can be getting by converting organic waste into fuel, they not only solve cooking needs but also address waste management and environmental concerns. At the sametime this system can turn problems into power.
This crisis is a challenge for us to innovate and rethink how to invent more cost effective and sustainable cooking system to meet our basic needs. We should not consider as a total scarcity.
Lets hope our future kitchen will be flexible, adaptive and sustainable
Now we must look beyond the blue flame as the beginning of change.
